Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis with Microcurrent
Stimulation
Plantar fasciitis is a very common problem. This
is the usual diagnosis given when the person has complaints of foot
pain with walking. The usual treatment for plantar fasciitis besides
the use of anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, is the
use of special inserts for the shoes. People often spend hundreds
if not thousands of dollars for these custom inserts. Most people
we see in this office have had three or four or five or more sets
of these inserts and while they may bring some relief, they often
have only a minimal effect on relieving the pain or improving endurance
and how far a person can walk before they suffer pain. Many of the
inserts are quite hard and rigid, and can cause even more pain and
discomfort for people.
Microcurrent stimulation therapy and acupuncture,
together with some rather gentle exercises as the pain begins to
subsided have proven to be very useful, simple, and safe treatments
for plantar fasciitis. This condition often requires a significant
number of treatments, but the treatments are relatively painless
and the improvements are very long-lasting.
