To
those interested in macular degeneration, Stargardt's disease, retinitis
pigmentosa and other retinal diseases We have been working in this office treating
people with macular degeneration and other retinal diseases using
the technology of microcurrent stimulation. The results have been
impressive, with over 80% of the people treated showing actual improvement
in their vision. This technology has been in use for the treatment
of eye disease in this country since 1983. We have treated people
with both the wet (exudative) and dry (non-exudative) forms of Age
Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) and have found that both the
wet and dry subgroups respond equally well to the treatments with
microcurrent stimulation. The people with Stargardt's disease, the
juvenile form of macular degeneration have actually responded better
than the older adults. The treatment is painless and in its history
since 1983 has proven remarkably safe. In addition to the treatments with microcurrent stimulation, all of the people we work with are given extensive education and counseling about the supplements and vitamins that have been shown to be useful for retinal diseases. There has been an impressive amount of research on the importance of specific foods and dietary supplements for people with degenerative eye diseases, and we spend considerable time helping the people we see to understand and sort this research to come up with a personal program of diet, supplements and lifestyle habits. Diet, supplements and vitamins alone can slow the progression of macular degeneration and retinal disease, but they have never been shown to bring any significant improvements. Still, they are important, and when combined with microcurrent stimulation therapies provide a course of treatment that is safe, effective, affordable and available now.
