Acupuncture and the Treatment of Infertility
There are many things that acupuncture can do to
help in the context of infertility. At the most basic level, treatment
with acupuncture helps to restore a balance to health that is necessary
for something as natural as conception to occur. Acupuncture can
also have a profound effect on be sympathetic nervous system, and
this property of acupuncture can be used to improve blood flow in
the uterus, which has been shown to increase the likelihood of success
with in vitro fertilization.(1) A recent study from Journal of the
American Medical Association demonstrated that acupuncture or moxibustion
can correct a breach presentation of a fetus.(2) Finally, acupuncture
can assist in inducing labor and in helping with pain control during
labor without the use of drugs. Dr. Miller has seen many women through
the course of their conception and pregnancy and finds this work
very gratifying.
